The Neuschwanstein Castle Of The Bavarian Fairy Tale Is A Symbol Of Germany All Over The World

Are you planning a longer stay in the mountains or a short break? Discover the feet, the picturesque Lechstadt on the romantic road on the edge of the Allgäuer and Ammergau Alps and their surroundings!

In the free state of Bavaria there is really much to see and to marvel at. Some of the landscapes seem to come directly from a fairytale book, so beautiful they are. Most of them think of a fairy tale when they first see the Neuschwanstein Castle at Füssen in Bavaria.

The Construction Looks Like A Dream

The construction work for today’s Neuschwanstein Castle began in 1869. The Bavarian King Ludwig II commissioned the construction of the “Neue Burg Hohenschwangau”, which was to serve him primarily as a retreat. The king was so enthusiastic about the idea of his own castle in the style of the then modern castle romance that he designed it almost single – handedly.

No matter if the story behind the castle is romantic or not – Neuschwanstein simply looks fabulous! Even the sight from afar makes the heart of every romantic one beat faster: Built on a rock, perched over the wooded landscape, turrets and battlements rise above the rest of the castle, the white limestone façade attracts the looks. It is no wonder, then, that the castle is one of the most photographed buildings in Germany.

The Castle Tour

During the tour you will learn more about the history and architecture of the castle, which has not yet been completely completed. You will pass among other things the royal chambers, the more than sumptuous throne room and the castle’s own grotto with conservatory. The colours gold and purple meet you in all rooms, frescoes and murals embellish the complete castle and let you immerse yourself in the fairytale world of the castle Neuschwanstein.
