Alpine Mountain ski resort is located in the Pocono Mountains, 135kms northwest of New York City, and is directly accessible by car only. Options for getting here include: flying to nearby Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport or a New York area airport and hiring a car; a combination of rail travel to Stroudsburg and shuttle bus; or self-drive.Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport is the closest major airport to Alpine Mountain and has a regular domestic flight timetable, and also boasts direct links with London (Heathrow). Shuttles are available for transfer to the resort, but having your own car gives you the opportunity to explore the lovely Pocono region.
By car from the airport, head north on I-81 to exit 186, from where I-380 goes southeast to junction 3; from there, highways 940, 191, Timber Hill road and highway 447 go to the resort. If you are coming from New York by road, head northwest along I-280 and I-80 to Stroudsburg, from where highway 447 goes to Alpine Mountain (two hours).
You can also get to the Poconos region by Greyhound or Martz Trailways buses, arriving from New York and Scranton; while trains run to Stroudsburg and Scranton.

Alpine Mountain ski resort is conveniently located to the northwest of New York City in the Pocono Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania. The 21 slopes at Alpine Mountain ski resort are divided into 14 per cent for beginners, 57 per cent for intermediates and 29 per cent for advanced snowboarders and skiers. The longest run is just under two kilometres, and five lift systems provide slope access.
Other winter activities and facilities at Alpine Mountain include a terrain park with half-pipe, and a tubing park. A café and pizza shop provide quick sustenance, and there is also a well-equipped lounge with bar and restaurant offering a wonderful view of the slopes. The nearby town of Mount Pocono has a wide selection of shops in its malls.
The Alpine Mountain ski season runs from December through to March and boasts a hundred per cent snowmaking facilities and its best natural snow in early February. Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport receives many internal flights and direct flights from London, and is only an hour away from Alpine Mountain; together with car hire, this is the most practical transport option.
ALPINE SKI AND SNOWBOARD RESORT, USA
Opened in 1984 and nestled in the heart of the Pocono Mountains in eastern Pennsylvania, Alpine Mountain ski resort has a good variety of beginner to advanced ski and snowboard runs, and also boasts a terrain park with half-pipe. Additionally, Alpine Mountain specialises in ski programs for children.
Facilities at the resort consist of a full service lodge with ski shop, rental and repair shops, as well as a certified ski school. Accommodation is in hotels, inns, resorts and cottages, along with villa and house rentals. There is a café, pizza shop, and a lounge overlooking the slopes that offers drinks and live weekend entertainment.
Alpine Mountain consists of 21 slopes that run over a 150-metre vertical; over half of the slopes are geared towards intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Five lift systems (including two quads, one double and two surface chairlifts), provide access to all pistes, the longest of which is 1.9kms. Alpine Mountain also boasts a hundred per cent artificial snowmaking.
Away from the slopes, the Poconos are loaded with wooded peaks and valleys dotted with numerous sparkling lakes, rivers and waterfalls and offer hundreds of kilometres of scenic drives. There are also several nearby towns worthy of a visit, including Mount Pocono, Mountainhome, Cresco, Canadensis and Paradise Valley – which all have inviting antique and speciality shops.
